- About The Artist
- A landscape painter of the American Southwest, Ralph Goltry was born in the Big Creek area near Chanute, Kansas. He spent the early part of his working career as a sign painter.
Goltry studied at the Kansas City Art Institute under Charles A. Wilimovsky, and after graduation in 1904, he then took off in his Model T Ford and toured the West. In 1922, he settled in Phoenix, Arizona and became a founding member of the Phoenix Art Guild. He was also active in the art community in Taos, New Mexico.
He was a close friend of native Kansan, John Steuart Curry. The two spent time together camping and sketching during Curry's visits to the Southwest.
Hallmark Cards of Kansas City purchased reproduction rights of a Goltry painting for three years in a row.
He died in Phoenix in 1971.
