- About The Artwork
- Big, beautiful, silver cuff bracelet--set with 7 very blue old Kingman turquoise stones.
These are hand cut and even though they each seem freeform in shape, there is a consistent symetricality, suggesting that the precious nugget material was halved. Very little matrix is visible with some color and shade variation in the blue to convey depth.
Navajo made sometime between the late 1950's and early 1960's, the wonderful piece has no mark of any kind. It is carefully crafted, solid and possessed of a certain visual strength.
After nearly a half century, this great piece is ready for another lifetime of wear.
- About The Artist
- The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
