- About The Artwork
- Simple elegance is the bottom line for this petite, very wearable Navajo squash blossom necklace.
The silver weight is quite good for the size of the piece. Being 23" in length (clasp included) with a pendant drop of an additional two inches, one doesn't expect a full gram weight of 66.6.
There are nine 3 petal blossoms on either side of a tidy little three stone carinated or "swaged" wire squash blossom. The turquoise is nature with no matrix and of sky blue to bleu green color.
Worn (as is) with the patina, or highlighted with a soft silver cloth, this is one sweet little necklace with character. It will always speak well of the wearer's taste.
- About The Artist
- The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
