- About The Artwork
- Streamline, mid-century modern Navajo-made barrette.
Graceful, acute triangle with rounded corners, framed by a 3/16" polished band. Within this band is a 1/8" wide "rope" created using a single line hand stamp.
The central portion of the piece is carefully domed to serve as a foundation for a somewhat egg-shaped cabochon of twilight blue natural turquoise with rust to black matrix and one tiny piece of crystal. This is very high grade Lone Mountain mine material.
The reverse of this hair ornament is fitted with two rows of silver comb "teeth" and an adjustable double wire latch mechanism--simple, but effective!
What a wonderful way to secure a special woman's "crowning glory" !!!!
- About The Artist
- The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
