- About The Artwork
- Sweet little split shank cuff bracelet, crafted of ingot material. It is set with a turquoise blue pear-shaped stone made of recut Hubbell trade glass.
The back plate upon which the bezel for the stone is mounted has a scalloped ornamentation created by the repetitive use of a tiny crescent-shaped stamp. One can see vestiges of a chevron-shaped stamp used to ornament other parts of the bracelet, especially where the shank forks and a silver raindrop, on each side, has been worn smooth.
This piece of jewelry was made lovingly. It is quite solid with a good heft for its diminuitive proportions.
- About The Artist
- The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
