- About The Artwork
- Navajo handmade of silver ingot material--its triple split shank is accented on each side with a wonderful 11/16" diameter silver button, domed with a "sunburst" stamp covering its entirety. A single large natural turquoise stone is of a twilight deep but intense blue, laced with a branchwork of black matrix. This oval cabochon has a low dome. The 3/16" wide silver frame is elaborate with twisted hand-drawn wire, repousse half domes and drawn wire crescents interspersed with silver bead "raindrops". This piece was made with a significant amount of skill and love! It was created to make a strong impression.
- About The Artist
- The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
