About The Artwork

An unusual feat--an entire scene depicted using color aquatint without any reliance on lines produced by etching!!! Moti was a master of aquatint coupled with fresh color. This beautiful print is illustrated in color on page 159 of Kaiko Moti published in 1988.

About The Artist

Kaiko Moti was born in Bombay, India in 1921. As a young man, he attended the Bombay School of Fine Arts for five years. Upon receipt of a scholarship from University College, he moved to London. In 1950 Moti moved to Paris, where he studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine. Lack of space in Paris was a challenge to Moti, so he turned from sculpture to printmaking. He studied at Atelier 17 with Stanley Hayter. Noted for his ephemeral aquatints, Moti also taught at the University of Wisconsin. Moti’s work has been shown all over the world, most notably the Biennale in Venice, the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the New York Public Library and the New Delhi Museum of Art. His work can be found in public and private collections including Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the French National Museum of Modern Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. Kaiko Moti, published by Lublin Graphics in 1988, is a hard-bound book showcasing many of Moti's graphics in full color.
