Naoko Matsubara received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Kyoto Academy of Fine Arts in Kyoto, Japan and then studied at the Royal College of Art in London England before earning a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania. She has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout the world. including in New York, Ireland, England, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 1981 Matsubara became an Elected Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art.
She is one of the premier Japanese woodcut artists in the world and her work is included in the collections of museums such as the British Museum, London, England; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; The White House, Washington, D.C. and the Tokyo National Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan. Matsubara currently resides in Oakville, Ontario.
